General Information

The Hornet Tribune is the student newspaper of Alabama State University. It is operated as a student-run newspaper, and it is the only black college newspaper in Alabama that is published once per week. With a circulation of 6,000 it is one of the larger college newspapers in the city of Montgomery. It is also the only black college newspaper in Alabama to be a full member of the Black College Communications Association, Southeast Journalism Conference, Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Association and it competes in the Alabama Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest against similar-sized professional daily newspapers.

Students edit, layout and design the entire paper.

The Hornet Tribune is a part of the Office of Student Media in the Alabama State University’s Division of Student Affairs. Kenneth A. Dean, directs the Office of Student Media. The editorial staff consists of approximately 25 students, along with a staff of 15-20 writers and 10 editors, though these numbers vary from year to year and semester to semester. There are entire divisions devoted entirely to advertising, sales, multimedia, and photography.

The staff consists of reporters, writers, content editors, and administrative editors.

The Hornet Tribune web site, The Hornet Tribune Online, is maintained as a part of the paper, yet incorporates all areas of the Office of Student Media. The Hornet Tribune Online.com is the most visited web site associated with Alabama State University. It began offering daily updates in 2002.
