More than 2,000 students and supporters of higher education assembled in front of the Alabama State House for the Higher Education Partnership's annual Higher Education Day rally. Jacksonville State University, Alabama State University, Troy University, and Montevallo University brought bus loads of students to the state capital to protests the governor's proposed budget cuts to higher education next fall.
Young women were encouraged to become leaders and set attainable goals at the Women's Empowerment Seminar on Mar. 9, sponsored by the Women's Empowerment Organization. The event was held at 7 p.m. in the Thelma Glass Auditorium. Catherine Wilson Wright, a former member of the Alabama State University Board of Trustees and a 1973 alumna, spoke at the event.
Despite Student Government Association President Duncan Kirkwood's appointments of students to serve on the SGA Judicial Branch, the justices have yet to hear one case. Six associate justices and a chief justice were approved by two-thirds vote of the student senate, but according to Kirkwood, they are facing some major challenges with the university's administration.

As a part of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.'s Omega Week, Leroy Rankin, senior recreational therapy major, sponsored the first annual Sister Bone pageant along with the help of friends Nefertiti Bagley and Adena Parsons, and members of Omega Essence Katrina Haney and Tabia Kintz.
